Game of Thrones: Who Was Varys Writing to at the Beginning of Episode 5?

The second last episode of Game of Thrones gave fans what is presumed to be the last big battle of the series. Game of Thrones: Who Was Varys Writing to at the Beginning of Episode 5?

The attack on King’s Landing by Daenerys was a real massacre, almost an hour of total war that meant the death of thousands of people… among them for a good handful of the main characters of the series.

A brutal battle that centered the fifth episode of the eighth and last season and can make you forget what happened just before Daenerys and Drogron unleashed all their anger on the capital of the Seven Kingdoms.

“not the only Targaryen left. Rhaegar and Lyanna… their son lives still, hidden by Eddard Stark… he is the true heir to the Iron Throne…”

The episode started with Varys writing these lines in several letters to send crows in which he warns that Jon Snow is actually Aegon Targaryen and therefore the true heir to the Iron Throne.

A few minutes later, after the eunuch’s attempt played by Conleth Hill to convince Jon to claim the throne, and after Tyrion confesses to the queen that Varys has betrayed her, Daenerys executes him and burns him alive.

But it seems that in his hasty work to spread Westeros great secret, Varys would have managed to write, and even send, some letters from DragonStone, where he still had several of his ‘little birds’ operating at his command.

The Big Question

The big question now is, of course, to whom these letters are addressed. A question that will surely be resolved in next week’s chapter, but everything indicates that its addressees will be the rest of the lords of Westeros who were not on either side.

The new prince of Dorne? It is more than likely. The northerners and people of the Valley and Riverrun who did not join the cause of Daenerys nor when Jon summoned them to fight against the King of the Night? More than likely.

Any powerful allies beyond the Narrow Sea? This option should not be discarded either.

But what is certain is that Varys’ efforts to depose Dany, or at least to sow doubt in the Seven Kingdoms as to who is truly entitled to the Iron Throne, will not fall on deaf ears… and will have consequences.

In the West the most difficult thing is not to conquer the Iron Throne… it is to maintain it.

Daenerys With Drogo And Jon.

His goal is to get as many people as possible to know the true succession situation after the Targaryen defeated Cersei Lannister and took the King’s Landing.

The first has already happened and it seems that it is only a matter of time before the news spreads like wildfire.

And in the Seven Kingdoms it will be known not only that Daenerys took King´s Landing, but also how he took it and who is actually the first Targaryen in the line of succession.

And it is that, as it has been verified before with Robert Baratheon, Joffrey Lannister, Tommen Lannister or Cersei herself, in the West the most difficult thing is not to conquer the Iron Throne… it is to maintain it.
