Mobile Phones In 2020

We collected the possible developments that would come in different Android phones in 2020. Including some that would arrive in the Galaxy S11, Xiaomi Mi 10 and surely the LG G9 ThinQ and OnePlus 8 Pro. Mobile Phones In 2020!

On December 3 and 4, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 865, the next generation of its most powerful processor and the chip that will arrive in all kinds of high-end Android phones in 2020.

With this, companies such as Motorola, Xiaomi (with the Xiaomi MI 10), Oppo, Nokia and Meizu (with the Meizu 17) have already confirmed that they will launch handsets with the Snapdragon 865 processor, but handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S11, LG G9 ThinQ and OnePlus 8 Pro are also expected to have this chip.

With this in mind, there is already more clarity about what some high-end Android phones might look like in 2020, thanks to the advantages offered by the Snapdragon 865 chip.

One thing to keep in mind is that although Snapdragon chips have been known primarily as processors, they are actually a set of components integrated into a chip that includes the processor, GPU and modem that allows it to communicate with different cellular networks.

“The Snapdragon 865 mobile platform, which includes the Snapdragon X55 5G RF modem system, is the world’s most advanced 5G platform, delivering unmatched performance and connectivity for the next generation of flagship devices,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm during the presentation.

The Snapdragon 865 promises improvements in overall device performance compared to the Snapdragon 855, which has been used in handsets such as the Galaxy Note 10 Plus, OnePlus 7 Pro, LG G8 and Pixel 4 XL. The Snapdragon 865 would also bring improvements over the Snapdragon 855+ processor, which has been used in some cell phones such as the OnePlus 7T.

Along with the Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm also introduced the Snapdragon 765 and 765G processors, which also share some new features.

The main new features of the Snapdragon 865 processor

  • 20 percent improvement in overall performance (Kyro 585 eight-core 2.84GHz CPU) and graphics (Adreno 650 GPU)
  • 5G support for mmWave and sub 6 on TDD and FDD frequencies
  • Certified with Wi-Fi 6
  • Bluetooth 5.1 support
  • Support for cameras up to 200 megapixels, video recording up to 8K and slow motion recording up to 960fps with “unlimited” time
  • Displays with refresh rates up to 144Hz
  • Qualcomm Sensing Hub allows gyro, accelerometer, Wi-Fi, voice data processing, location and audio to be always active
  • Improved graphics, now compatible with the Unreal 4 engine

Improved performance and battery life

The Snapdragon 865 processor continues to use Qualcomm’s Kryo architecture, but with several enhancements the company promises that this chip will improve performance by up to 20 percent and extend battery life cycles by up to 200 days.

Mobile phones with cameras up to 200 megapixels and 8K recording

The Snapdragon 865 chip has a processing unit (ISP) that achieves speeds of up to 2 gigapixels per second to increase the capacity offered by the cameras in the cell phones.

With this, phones that integrate the Snapdragon 865 chip will have the capacity to record video up to 8K, as well as integrate cameras of up to 200 megapixels.

In addition, Qualcomm promises improved slow-motion video recording quality to enable recording at, for example, 960fps for an “unlimited” time and not just for one second as we have seen so far.

The processor also enables the cameras to be capable of recording 4K HDR video with over 1 billion colour tones and offers for the first time the ability to record Dolby Vision HDR video. You can now even capture a 64 megapixel photo while recording 4K HDR video, something we’ve never seen before.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Galaxy S11 has been rumored to have a 108 megapixel camera like the one in the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, while also offering 8K video recording and even a 5X zoom lens.

Screens with better refresh rate

Most cell phones have had 60Hz refresh rate screens, but a few have already started to improve by offering 90Hz as is the case with the OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T and the Pixel 4 XL, while the Asus ROG Phone 2 already offers a 120Hz screen.

The higher the refresh rate, the more smoothly you can experience because the screen refreshes more times per second to provide that enhanced experience.

The Snapdragon 865 not only offers support for 60Hz, 90Hz or 120Hz, but goes one step further to offer support for up to a 144hz display.

One thing to keep in mind is that there have been rumours that the Galaxy S11 would have a 120Hz screen, for example, so this gives more weight to that rumour.

More advanced artificial intelligence (AI)

The Snapdragon 865 achieves 15 TOPS of artificial intelligence (AI) processing power, which is twice as much as its predecessor.

Since then, AI processing has enabled different tasks, such as voice recognition, photo and video enhancements, as well as real-time object identification.

With increased power, this same performance would require less battery power, plus it could open the door to more powerful functions such as augmented reality.

Graphical-quality desktop games

Qualcomm claims that the Adreno 650 GPU built into the Snapdragon 865 chip would enable desktop-like graphics quality.

These graphics enhancements are 20 percent greater than what was offered by its predecessor.

Better sound quality for calls and music using Bluetooth

AptX Voice was announced shortly before Tech Summit and will be integrated into the Snapdragon 865 chip to provide better sound quality on calls when using Bluetooth headsets, as it is Super Wide Band (SWB) compatible.

In addition, the Snapdragon 865 offers support for aptX Adaptibe and Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus which reduce latency, increase battery life and provide better connectivity to enhance the experience when listening to music or other content.

In addition, the Snapdragon 865 offers support for Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6.

An improved on-screen fingerprint reader

Last year, the Snapdragon 855 brought support for Qualcomm’s on-screen ultrasonic hula-reader and the Snapdragon 865 offers support for the company’s new Sonic Max 3D on-screen reader, which can generate up to 17 times more detection area than cell phones such as the Galaxy S10 and Note 10, while promising to be faster and even authenticate two fingers simultaneously.

More 5G phones

Qualcomm is going the extra mile to enable us to enjoy 5G, not only because the Snapdragon 865 now offers download speeds of up to 7.5Gbps with the Snapdragon X55 modem, but also support for key bands and frequencies in different regions that integrate mmWave, Sub 6, TDD, FDD and DSS.

The Snapdragon 865 also offers support for 5G roaming, as well as more than one SIM card in a device.

Another important new feature of Qualcoom’s new generation of chips is that mid-range 5G handsets are expected to arrive in 2020 with the Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G processors, which also include a 5G modem.
