Where did grumpy live?

Grumpy lived in Phoenix, Arizona, and his real name was Tardar Sauce. She had become world-renowned in 2012 when photos of her bitter, sad expression appeared on Reddit. At the insinuation that it was a fake, its owners published a series of videos.

Since then, Grumpy Cat has appeared on “Good Morning America”, “CBS Evening News” and even “American Idol” and “The Bachelorette”. She appeared in ads for Honey Nut Cheerios cereal, and hundreds of fans were photographed with her at the South by Southwest festival.

In 2014, Lifetime produced a movie called “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever,” with the voice of Aubrey Plaza.

Since then her grumpy gesture became viral and became a meme. It was the beginning of her career as an influencer pet, which brought juicy advertising contracts to her family and even hundreds of thousands of dollars in lawsuits.

“Some days are more grumpy than others,” published Tabatha, Bryan and Crystal, the human family of Grumpy Cat.

Hundreds of people posted condolence messages on social media.

Grumpy Cat had 8.5 million Facebook fans, 2.5 million Instagram followers and 1.5 million Twitter followers.

In April 2018, Grumpy received US$710,000 after winning a lawsuit for infringement of her image rights. Owner Tabatha Bundesen had signed a US$150,000 advertising contract with the Grenade coffee brand in 2013, and the company had not respected the terms of the agreement.

Grenade had the rights to use the image of the cat in its “Grumppuccino” iced coffee. But included it in other products without authorization. After a series of lawsuits and counterclaims by the coffee brand, a federal jury in California sided with the cat and ordered Grenade to pay US$710,000 for image rights infringement.

How much was the cat worth?

Owner Tabatha Bundesen founded Grumpy Cat Limited and created a website offering 884 items. Including a T-shirt and a mug with a photo of the cat.

The net value of the cat was never disclosed. Its owners say that in 2013 it amounted to hundreds of thousands. Last year it was speculated to be in the millions of dollars.
